Bengaluru: Italdesign is poised for a major transformation as UST acquires a majority stake in the iconic design and engineering firm through a new strategic partnership with the Audi Group.
The move reinforces the long-term collaboration between Audi and Italdesign, while accelerating the company’s global growth trajectory.
As part of the agreement, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A., Italdesign’s current parent company under the Audi Group, will retain a significant share, ensuring continuity, strategic alignment, and ongoing project collaborations. Audi will continue to serve as a key long-term partner and major client of the company.

Integrated Automotive Innovation
With UST assuming majority ownership, the partnership aims to combine UST’s strengths in automotive engineering, artificial intelligence, connected vehicle systems, and digital ecosystem development with Italdesign’s expertise in vehicle and product design, prototyping, small-series manufacturing, and automotive electronics.
This synergy will enable the companies to offer end-to-end capabilities – from early-stage conceptualisation and design to hardware and software engineering through to production systems – supporting the development of next-generation, digitally enabled vehicles.
Global Scale Expansion for Italdesign Through UST Network
UST plans to extend Italdesign’s footprint by leveraging its presence in more than 30 countries worldwide. As the new operational leader, UST has committed to preserving Italian design heritage, engineering culture, and the expertise of its workforce while unlocking access to new international markets.
Audi’s CTO Geoffrey Bouquot described UST as the “ideal partner” to strengthen Italdesign and open new market opportunities.
UST CEO Krishna Sudheendra emphasized Italdesign’s global design legacy and noted the company’s intent to support its future vision and expansion.
Italdesign CEO Antonio Casu stated that the partnership will accelerate the company’s growth and position it as a leading global integrator of hardware and software across automotive and other high-technology sectors.

UST COO Gilroy Mathew highlighted the combined strengths of both companies in digital engineering, advanced vehicle electronics, AI, ADAS, simulations, connectivity, and next-generation mobility systems.
Transaction Details
The company has been part of the Volkswagen Group since 2010. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval. UST and the Audi Group have not disclosed the financial terms of the transaction.
